Yes! I have been an ex-pat in ECUADOR for 12 years. I live up in the Andes in Cuenca, a World Heritage city, with many European aspects. Ecuador is on the US dollar and has 110-voltage, making a transition even easier. And as a senior (over 65) there are many dollar-saving advantages, including 50% off airline tickets to anywhere in the word, as long as the flight originates in Ecuador. Twenty years ago I lived for 2 years in Suriname, loved the food and culture and climate. I considered retiring there but decided as an older person it would be more prudent to go for a location with easier access to world-class health care. If you want to know more about Ecuador, check out International Living magazine. They have a great guidebook called "Escape to Ecuador."
