What Kind of Editing Do You Need For Your Book?
The different kinds of editing
Congratulations!
You’ve completed the first draft of your novel or memoir!
You think that was work? Get ready for EDITING! This is where your major work begins.
EDITING is not just about making sure the words are spelled correctly and the grammar is correct.
EDITING is looking at every aspect of your writing — from your initial memoir idea, through the telling of your story, to how you craft your sentences.
Well, yes, and spelling and punctuation, too.
Did you know that there are actually two kinds of editors you can hire?
A Developmental or Content Editor — really the same thing — will critique and evaluate your story. This kind of editing involves looking at your story itself.
This editor, looking at the big picture, will look for inconsistencies in your story-telling and may suggest possible revisions that will make your memoir move forward with smoother pacing.
A Copy or Line Editor reads every line with a focused eye on words that are misspelled, names that are inconsistently spelled, punctuation, typos, and glaring grammar errors.
