Last month in a closet I found an old box filled with little pieces of paper with random notes written on them. Every morning since then, while my coffee’s brewing, I’ve been grabbing two or three and ruthlessly dealing with them.

But this isn’t about my dealing-with-random-pieces-of-paper method.

It’s about one writing note I made 14 years ago that is still true today.

PASSION is the ONE ELEMENT a memoir must have.

Whether you’re writing about a troubled childhood, a challenging marriage or a grueling travel adventure, the passion you felt during what happened to you is what will keep your reader on edge, keep turning the pages, and wanting to know, OMG, what happened next?

I have no doubt that the reason you’re writing your memoir is that you have strong feelings about what you experienced.

Don’t be afraid to pour your passion into the words you write.

Now if you find yourself uncomfortable about writing about strong emotions, I’ve got a workbook you’ll find helpful.
